Too Dark to Focus
A Collection of Nighttime and Low-Light Photography

This page will showcase a collection of photography that I've created in low-light situations, ranging from dusk to the pitch black of night inside an abandoned steel mill.

Featured Collections

The 1996 Olympic Natatorium (1995)
Atlantic Steel's Abandoned Millhouse (1998)

Original Brightness Reference Icons

Time-exposure photography has the ability to turn night into day, simply by allowing more light to enter the camera and expose the film. Most of the images look like they were taken in daylight due to this technique, so I am employing an "Original Brightness Reference" icon for each photograph. This will allow you to understand (if you're even curious) what kind of conditions I was shooting with.

Daylight
Photographs taken outdoors between or during morning twilight and evening twilight

Interior Daylight Photographs taken indoors without interior lighting between or during sunrise and sunset. I usually can't see to focus and I have to figure out the focal length numerically.
Night
Photographs taken outdoors at night. I usually can't see to focus these either.

Interior Night Photographs taken indoors at night or twilight. Forget focusing, I usually can't see the subject (or the camera) without a flashlight.
